Avengers: Endgame is truly what we all have been waiting for. The end of an era. You know the people. The Russo Brothers, Evans, RDJ, Hemsworth, Johansson, Ruffalo, Rudd, and everyone else because there is not enough space to list them all. Following the forever-altering comic book cinematic events of Infinity War, will the heroes be able to live with their failure? Or will they assemble and save the universe? It truly is difficult to discuss this film without spoilers so we will try our best.
Editing Gold: It is easy to discuss the story and acting in Endgame, but those who are not paying attention closely will miss how well the technical aspect of Endgame was accomplished. Considering the events of the second act there were plenty of opportunities for the audience to get confused or for the events to be unbelievable, but the editing department was smart to put it so simply.
Portion Controlled: An impressive aspect of Endgame is that each act of the film is so well packed with performance, editing, pacing, and a story that they can all be their own individual films. Which is a feat in itself due to the long runtime of the film. Another great controlled aspect of the film is screen time for our heroes. Where Infinity War was successful in giving characters screen time, Endgame is flawless. If anything, the amount of time we get with each character is a tribute to the actors and writers of these characters over the years. We experience (as opposed to just watching) every scene with Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Ant-Man, Thor, and so on and so on.
2nd Act: A little more talk on that second act is needed. There is no better second act in a comic book film. It is crafted with such care that the editing department deserves any potential award available. The second act is a force of memories and loss which can be attributed to an amazing script.
Full Speed: From the beginning to the end, this film is full speed ahead. We are dropped into a perfect scene and we leave with a perfect scene. I honestly cannot imagine starting Endgame or ending it in any other way. So satisfying.
Avengers: Endgame is jaw-dropping. It is hard to see what the future holds. So instead, just relish in the storytelling and editing supernova that is Endgame. Thanks to Evans and RDJ for starting this journey for us all. And thanks to the Russo brothers for delivering a finish we could not imagine.
