A Deadly Adoption

A Deadly Adoption 2015 Spoiler Free Movie Review
A Deadly Adoption [2015]: Robert and Sarah (Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig) search for a birth mother after an unfortunate event that ended with the loss of their second child. After many candidates go by, they end up meeting Bridget (Jessica Lowndes), who seems to be the perfect match for the family. Robert and Sarah offer to her to stay at their house until the child is born to make sure she is okay. In typical Lifetime fashion, the situation isn’t as safe as it seems to be.

Truly once in a lifetime *queue crickets*: Lifetime has become self-aware and produced a metafilm based around the typical cheese they put out. Coming from that is a very entertaining film that doesn’t ruin the joke by being too self-aware *cough* Sharknado 2 *cough*.

Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig play the whole film as serious as possible, without any other cameos to derail the thought that this is a Lifetime movie, not an SNL parody. The plot stays very safe with the drama, it never gets to the point of being unrealistic, even though everything is just insane by itself. Every other performance is okay. It’s a Lifetime movie, so everybody is very over-dramatic, and it feels like a weird soap opera starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig.

Is it funny? Yes, and no. Maybe after a second view, it could be viewed as a comedy, but it really does seriously play up until the last scene. I don’t know how Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig did it. It’s a shame that this couldn’t get the proper surprise release as intended, but it succeeds at being a Lifetime movie, and it’s honestly pretty re-watchable.

Very interesting, fun, and worth a watch.
